Austin Innovative Concrete is the top polished concrete installer in Central Texas. Polished concrete is a type of concrete that has been milled and sealed to give it a smooth, highly reflective surface. There are two types of polished concrete (grind and sealed or mechanically polished concrete) and various finishes, affecting the quality and price. A polished concrete floor typically is less porous than regular concrete, and it has a more seamless, uniform look.
If you’re looking to add a unique visual element to your home or office, you might want to consider decorative concrete floors like polished concrete. These floors look a little like marble or granite and are suitable in commercial and residential settings where the floor needs an elegant touch, is durable, and is easy to clean.
Lasts a long time: It won’t scratch, fade or wear out as fast as other types of flooring materials because its hardness makes it resistant to damage from furniture and human traffic.
Is easy to maintain: A grind and seal will only need re-polishing when its original shine becomes dull. You can usually touch up that dullness in one day at most.
Residential Polished Concrete
Polished concrete floors are made of the same materials as regular concrete but look very different once they’re finished. Instead of being dull and gray, polished concrete has a high-gloss sheen that looks like marble, granite, or tile. The result is a bright, reflective floor that allows light to reflect freely and makes it a beautiful addition to any flooring project.
If you are looking to bring curb and appeal to your home, Let Austin Innovative Concrete bring a showroom shine to your floors with our specialized method of polishing concrete floors. Our trained technicians are here to help you with any questions about the concrete polishing process!
Commercial Polished Concrete

Polished Concrete Finishes
Polishing concrete has become significantly easier over the years with new equipment and techniques. Polished Concrete Finishes come in various grits(100,200,400), giving the floor its finish depending on the desired sheen. The lower the number, the rougher the grind will feel when running it across your floor.
The smooth, reflective surface of polished concrete floors provides a truly unique look. A polished concrete floor has a very low-maintenance and durable finish. The Polished Concrete Finishes sets polished concrete floors apart from standard concrete floors, but proper care and maintenance of the finished surface will keep it looking its best for years to come.
Salt & Pepper Polished Concrete
Salt and pepper polishing is a prevalent technique for producing a sophisticated-looking concrete finish. The name “salt and pepper” derives from the classic black and white flooring widely used for many years. This classic look is defined by a random pattern of small white and black dots, much like that produced by a pepper pot when it’s tipped onto the dining table.
Our collection of polished concrete floors provides the look of honed limestone and sandstone at a fraction of the cost. Each floor customized to your preference and needs creates a beautiful addition that will last forever. Call us to get started on your project.
Aggregate Exposed Polished Concrete
A new trend is dark-colored aggregate polished floors, sometimes referred to as black polished floors or charcoal floors. This can be a nice complement to lighter-colored walls or ceilings if they are not too stark of a contrast.
The aggregate exposed polished concrete floors are distinguished by their high-contrast patterns and textures. These flooring options are ideal for rooms where the floor might be the main focal point, such as your living room or dining room. Depending on the finish, our floors are sealed with a unique penetrating sealer to preserve the natural characteristics of concrete while creating a hard, shiny surface.
Medium Aggregate Exposure
The concrete laid in this pattern has little-medium large aggregate exposure. This floor is ideal for high-volume traffic areas, such as an industrial warehouse floor, in a commercial or residential setting. If you are looking for a flooring solution, call Austin Innovative Concrete to consult on the best concrete floor for your budget.
Large Aggregate Exposure
It refers to a high gloss decorative concrete with a high rock surface appearance because the exposed aggregate makes the concrete floor look rough. The beautiful rough texture of this type of concrete makes it ideal for use as an exterior finish on patios and other high-end settings.
It is made with natural stones, minerals, and other elements that give it its unique look. Sand-topped exposure aggregate gives each stone a uniform sand texture over the entire surface of the stone.
Cream Polished Concrete
Cream polished concrete can be a wonderful option for achieving a modern look in your home. The cream finish is a cloudy, glossy, and reflective look that will continue to be fashionable for many years to come.
While “cream” is often associated with paint finishes, it should not be confused with white paint. Instead, cream polished concrete floors are created using concrete coloring agents. If you’re interested in achieving a cream polished concrete floor look in your home or business, contact Austin Innovative Concrete professionals today to discuss the process and get started on the next step.
Matte Finish
Concrete is a durable option for any home or business. The matte finish will give your home the professional look you desire. Not only is this style lasting, but it is also easy to clean and maintain. So your work will be cut out for you when it comes time to care for this particular flooring style.
Low Sheen
Concrete surfaces are judged based on their reflectivity. The term “sheen” refers to the degree of reflection when light hits the surface of the concrete flooring. A low sheen surface is less reflective than a high sheen but is more attractive than a flat finish.
High Sheen
Concrete floors can be polished to a high shine appearance. The sheen level is determined by the sealer and polishing pad used. The finer the polishing pad, the greater sheen will be obtained. They are perfect for homes with pets because they are easy to clean and disinfect after accidents. Cream Polished concrete floors are also non-porous and do not support bacteria growth, making them one of the most hygienic floor types available today.
High Gloss
The high gloss cream polished concrete floors are classic with their magnificent smoothness and simply elegant color palette. This imagination-stimulating product provides endless possibilities for interior decorating in any residential or commercial environment: kitchens, living spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms, and more! Use it as a stand-alone flooring product or combine it with other products of your choice to achieve a customized look that suits your taste.
Our Concrete Polishing Process
Concrete polishing is a method that smoothens the concrete surface using additives and specialized tools. Because the process involves high-strength agents, proper polishing requires protective gear and extensive training.
Austin Innovative Concrete has provided quality commercial and residential concrete polishing in Austin for many years. What sets our concrete polishing process apart is that We have a proven track record of successfully restoring our client’s concrete floors to their former glory.
Floor Prepping
Prepping your concrete floor before polishing can be done in three stages depending upon the condition of the floors and how much dirt or dust is present. The first phase is Mopping and sweeping debris and foreign materials (if needed). The second phase is to remove any old sealers or paint coatings that already exist on your floor and vacuum. The third phase is to repair any cracks or blemishes visible on the floor itself. This will ensure that the floor has a clean surface for maximum polish.
Grinding
Polishing the concrete floor is done by using a concrete grinder. Do not use a hand-held grinder unless on tight corners. The machine used should provide between 1200 and 1500 RPMs of power. The concrete grinder itself is fitted with a diamond grinding disc which moves in a circular motion. We use a mixture of fine and medium grit discs for optimum results. The grinder may have one or two wheels, depending on its manufacturer.
Some manufacturers also offer different types of diamond grit discs for different applications. If you are looking for a high gloss finish, make sure you use a diamond abrasive disc that produces a high gloss. The same rule applies to all other types of finishes.
Densifiers
Densifiers are used as a protective coating to increase the strength and durability of stamped concrete floors. Since moisture becomes trapped within the film, it cannot escape through the pores in the concrete. This decreases porosity, thus increasing compressive strength and reducing permeability.
Grouting
Cementitious grout is a fluid mixture of cement and water, sometimes with other additives for specialized purposes. The fluid mixture is forced into cracks and voids using a pump to heal any blemishes on the floor or fill holes.
Staining or Dying
When you’re looking at which type of product to use on your concrete, you’ll find that there are two basic choices: concrete stains or dyes. The big difference between these two products is how they react with the surface material. A stain will chemically react with the concrete, and a dye simply permeates the material. Both stains and dyes have different application instructions depending on the product or manufacturer, and they are available in many different colors and should be applied to clean dry concrete.
Polishing
Polishing on your floor is really the last major step in the concrete polishing process. It will enhance the natural beauty of the concrete floor and help to even out any color variations during the staining process.
Finish off with a final 400 grit diamond polish, exposing the aggregate and making it look uniform. You can also use a brightener or sealer to bring out the definition of that beautiful aggregate.
Polished Concrete Benefits
When it comes to home decor, polished concrete floors are a big trend that is here to stay. Polished concrete is a great way to add style and class to any room in your home, from the kitchen, dining room, living room, bedrooms, and bathrooms.
Safety
Polished concrete floors have improved traction to provide a slip-resistant surface that helps prevent accidents, particularly in areas where wet or spilled material could make the floor slippery.
Slip Resistant
Many people have the misconception that concrete can never be slip-resistant. Concrete is a very versatile material, and polishing or buffing can make it much safer to walk on. The concrete is sealed after polishing to prevent any more liquid from coming into contact with the floor. It reduces your risk of falling and getting injured while using this type of flooring.
Reduces Harmful Airborne Particles
Polished concrete is a great alternative for those who have allergies to carpeting. It can reduce harmful airborne particles by up to 50%, which can improve the air quality inside your home and protect your family from the dangers of poor air quality.
Cleaning
Cleaning polished concrete floors is easy because there’s no need for special cleaners or protective finishes. Just sweep or vacuum as you normally would (you might have to use a slightly stiffer brush on stubborn dirt). The polished concrete color will not fade or discolor over time, so you don’t need to worry.
Densification
Concrete densification is a process that will make the concrete stronger, more durable, and it will make the floor feel smoother to walk on. This process creates an extremely durable, dense, and stable surface that can withstand extreme weather conditions.
Increased Strength
Anyone would want their concrete polished because it creates a protective seal on the floor that helps it last longer and look better. The seal helps make the floor more resistant to water damage, stains, and other damages.
Tire Marks Resistant
If you are looking to increase the value of your home’s entryway, polished concrete is an excellent choice. You can use it in all applications, including residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Are you looking for a garage floor solution? Polished concrete is highly resistant to tire marks caused by forklifts and traffic slurry.
No Waxing or Stripping
Polished Concrete is very hard and resilient; it requires no waxing or stripping depending on the polished concrete floor type and looks the same as the day you poured it. They reflect light for a bright, clean appearance, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for any interior space.
Sustainability
The shine on polished concrete floors protects it against scratches and dents, keeping it looking good longer than other types of flooring. This reduces your need to repaint or replace flooring as often as you might otherwise need to do. It is also more resistant to water damage than wood floors, making it a great choice for kitchens and entryways.
Long-Lasting
High glossy polished concrete floors don’t fade over time as some other materials do. They don’t dent, and they don’t scratch easily either. If you have pets or young children, they are perfect. They don’t need to be sealed or refinished every few years either.
“Green” – Friendly to the Environment
While polishing concrete floors can be a somewhat labor-intensive undertaking, the result is a beautiful floor that will last for years to come. It does not contain any synthetic dyes or toxic chemicals harmful to the environment.
